This is wonderful. What have not been tested by orchid fanatics?
The listerin I have has alot of menthol and smells to much for me to use on my orchids! But whoever know, someday in the dark future even I will turn to the toothfairy

I think Sue is referring to the 'brown' listerine or original flavor .. not the mint

Right...I don't know the reasoning behind it but everything I've read says to only use the original "flavor" for the 'chids

That 'brown' listerine is not availibly in Sweden, at least I have not seen it!
So I have to use more conventional methods it seems

...anyone else use diluted Vodka? Food grade Hydrogen peroxide in small amounts?

The majority of my Pleurothallids are mounted, and I've never encountered many pest/fungal/bacterial problems. It usually starts with a good growing area, good ventilation, and not varying the temperatures and conditions all that much (unless you are simulating a season). Of course, with Pleurothallids, you can afford to dispose of an affected leaf... other genera are not as plentiful...

I have VERY few Cattleya species mounted, and they give the least problems. The only thing would be to remember to water it (unless it is a species that normally grows drier, like C. walkeriana or C. schilleriana)...

Actually Yes! I don't dilute it, I use it full strength (except in a glass with Orange juice ) Seriously, it does a great job of killing mold. I use it on cigars that have mold spots as well as orchids or medium that gets mold (rare, but does happen). Great suggest, Pat. Just thought I was only one.

Reading different threads on this board I believe think/thought..? that "listerine"(original/yellow colour) was an OK substitute for Physan which is not available in France..? although one cannot get listerine either!
But I was lucky & I got myself a bottle whilst on holiday in Kenya which I am keeping preciously just in case....) Have I got it right??
thanks in advance for clearing this up in my head

Not really a direct substitute so much as a "home remedy" that does similar things. It's an OK substitute.

Tell him he can swab the mold away with straight vodka and q-tips. Seems to stop mold right away. Then reduce humidity or increase venting. Mold can wipe out a great cigar collection in a couple weeks.
