Will these oak logs make good mounts?
I picked up a bunch of logs off the side of the road a few months ago for fire pit wood.
I later realized some of the logs have a nice shape and would make really nice mounts. As you can see I already have my husband working on a base to stabilize one of them.
My question is will they be good mounts?
And will they last?
I believe they're oak logs.
I've read a little about mounts and problems about breaking down and other people having no problem at all.
Once mounted they will likely be placed outside in my yard along with the rest of my orchids (I'm in Florida) so they can get the same environment as they did on my tree.
-side note, and slightly irrelevant story, I had my orchids mounted on my Indian almond tree (I didn't know what kind of tree it was till recently, its the first year in my home) and they were thriving. Well turns out the tree is deciduous! One day I wake up and all the leaves are gone and my orchids are being fried! I frantically took most off, except the dendrobiums, they're rather enjoying the sun. So I would like to take the orchids I took off my tree and put them on these logs.
