Hi,
I was trimming my Magnolia couple of weeks ago, and I thought I would keep some larger branch chunks for mounting. Any thoughts on that one? Thanks.
Search the page for "Magnolia" there is a post by epiphyte78 around two thirds the way down.

So I would guess it should be fine as a mounting material.
There is a difference between mounting orchids in a living tree and mounting orchids on harvested wood/branches.
Most types of harvested wood should do fine, as long as any sap, resin, etc. has had time to bleed out or dry up.
I have mounted orchids in living Ficus benjamina.
I had to cut up and depose of one and was able to save the Dendri I had growing in it.
For a couple days after cutting up the tree, the branches with the Dendri experienced a pretty good amount of latex(?) bleeding.
Thankfully it didn't bother the Dendri very much.
