But why? People mount orchids on dead plant parts all the time!

The only "dead plant parts" I use are renewable. Skulls aren't.

Skulls are more renewable than trees. You can raise a cow skull in much less time than you can grow a tree.

The smelly Bulbophyllums would also be a somewhat darkly humorous orchid to attach to a bone mount. Just a thought

I guess it's just a matter of personal taste.

Yes a bulbophylum would be a good candidate for this project. I may be getting a bulbo through eBay (I was hoping someone would outbid me but it hasn't happened yet! My boyfriend is going to be pretty upset if I win it lol) My first thought about mounting an orchid on bones was that they could benefit from the minerals in the bone, and then Ray mentioned it's just morbid.....I can see that too now. I haven't tried it out yet but I still kinda want to try it out. If I win the orchid, a trip down to Dad's house will be in order 😜

It may be morbid in certain respects but then consider, as PaphMadMan said, how bones have been used throughout history for various things from art to tools and well it just seems rather frugal and efficient.

After all bone-meal fertilizer is not an uncommon product, so I would guess a lot about Gardening is morbid when you think about it. A compost heap is just a pile of decaying plant matter, plants that were once alive... Petrol is just what remains of organisms that died ages ago, so you could even say driving is a morbid activity if you wanted to take it that step further.

All a matter of perspective.

I wish you all the best with your project and I'm sure your fella wont be too upset. If it makes you happy and you're not hurting anyone, where's the harm? (other than to the bank balance)
Just means he gets a free pass on a future purchase of his choosing.
