Hi all, I don't really ever take long vacations, but often take weekend trips. In these instances, is it a good idea to allow mounted plants to soak overnight to get a little extra hydration before I take my trip? They'd be on their own for a couple of days. Should i soak again upon returning?
I don't worry about any orchid that has a pseudo-bulb, since the purpose of the pseudo-bulb is to get the plant through dry spells. I just water normally before I leave. I don't mount phals anymore because I didn't like the fact that I couldn't leave them very long. If you water them before you leave they might be good for a couple days.
Thanks tucker. That does seem reasonable after thinking more about it.
One of the plants I was concerned about is a Bulbo. lasiochilum, and the other is Sedirea japonica. The bulbo has very fine roots, which I was most concerned about, and the japonica has a hefty pad of sphagnum that is usually just barely damp after 24 hours.
I think you're right, they'll be ok for 1 or 2 days.
