Wow I'm glad to see your phals growing happily mounted! I just mounted mine 3 days ago on bark using palm fiber as I don't have moss...(considering to buy it from eBay though...) And it does dry fast, soi need to keep a close eye on it to prevent disaster!

Here's the picture of the day following the mount. How does it look to you? I think now the roots are a bit thinner..

It is difficult to say. In the photographs, it is not possible to see the texture of the bark or the way the roots have been tied down. They look nice and green and there are a lot of them, so that is good. I would imagine that if they are firmly secured, new root growth will begin attaching to the mount, provided it is a suitable surface.

I couldn't tie it too tight because the roots would have snapped although I soaked them beforehand..
So I really hope it's OK what I did

Do you have any tips to encourage the roots to attach? Would it be just new growth that attaches or the existing roots as well?

The existing roots will not attach to the mount. New roots must grow onto the mount, but you may get many new roots that grow from the old ones. Make sure the old roots are tied down in very close contact with the wood so that new ones will find it quickly.
