I'm mounting some orchids on the hickory wood my Judge and her husband cut from their property in North Florida. The orchids are looking awesome!! I have so many pieces of wood I don't even know what orchids to put on them.... Awesomeness!!! (although admittedly, my fingers are hurting a bit from tying them with fishing line) But they look fantastic!
I bought ANOTHER encyclia and I must say, I didn't expect them to look so great on the wood. So I can't wait to receive the one I bought so I can also mount it. God, this is so great!
Instead of fishing line, you can use florists wire. It is a thin green coated steel wire, which is fairly inoffensive visually, and very easy to work with.
Mounting Leptotes and small Vandaceous plants usually requires only two loops, and then you twist the ends together. Once roots have taken hold, the wire is easy to remove (and it can be reused, if you are not worried about transmitting virus).
