Mine normally don't put out roots till a month after mounting.
Sometimes more depending on the cattleya.

They grow roots when they are at the appropriate stage of growth. New roots will come from new growth.

Seaweed extract will help grow new roots. Neptune's Harvest fish/seaweed fertilizer is very good, although a bit smelly. KelpMax from FirstRays is also good and not smelly, but you need to use it with a fert.

Seaweed extract helps, but like Sonya has said, roots tend to grow on new growths. When I mounted one of mine it had a growth that had not yet put out any roots, just as another new growth was starting the first put out masses of roots and they just clung beautifully to the mount (as have most of the roots since then).

I've found Catts seem to grip the mount best of all my mounts but it did take a little while for the roots to start and then it was because the plant was at the right stage of growth to put them out.

I agree with the others. If the environment is humid and it's the right time in the growing cycle, roots can start within six weeks, in my experience. But every cattleya is different with different species in it's background. Bifoliates are especially sensitive about when they're repotted or mounted. But most cattleyas will have signs of new roots by six weeks. I'm a big fan of using seaweed extracts also. The one I use is Maxicrop liquid seaweed.

Many Cattleya species have only one short timeframe for rooting during the course of a year.

Mounting should be done when it has new bulb growing out.. Since it has new roots, i think it will mount in matter of days.

Just make sure you mount and tie it tightly.
