Thanks! That sounds like a great way to grow Anthuriums.
I like mounted orchids. I have a brassavola in a clay pot (no medium) with the intention that it will eventually encompass that pot. Most of mine are on cedar, cork or other wood. The nice thing about using clay pots is that they never rot away or harbor wood-dwelling insects.

I'm with you on that one. I used to kill all my catts until I discovered lava rock. It's cheap too!

It is great to hear from someone else who cannot grow in bark. Everyone else seems to find it completely magical. I found it a black hole for roots.

I find that at first, bark repels the water. Then it breaks down and rots. Lava rock or leca lasts

That's the beauty of the Sequoia bark. It has phytochemicals in it that inhibit fungal growth (similar to cedar) so far I haven't seen any signs of decomposition on either of my mounts, or any of the potted media. It is a little hydrophobic at first, but seems to rehydrate nicely after an initial soak.
