Why has this never occurred to me before????????
A totally DUH moment. SO, I have some orchids that need mounting. I have bought cedar planks online before, but I've just bought so many orchids lately that I'm behind in mounting. Today, my sister and I went to HD to see if they had cedar planks/scraps and, as I was walking past by the lumber, my sister says to me,
"Why don't you just buy the long pieces of lumber and have it cut to whatever specification you need?"
I don't know why it's never occurred to me to do that. I chose a nice piece of 8" wide cedar and had it cut into eight, 12 inch pieces. The lumber is thick (thicker than what I've purchased before, and well, let's just say it was the proverbial "why haven't I've ever thought of this before?"
I paid 20 dollars for eight foot-long cedar planks that are about 1/2 of an inch thick. They also had 6" inch wide cedar, but I wanted to mount some bigger divisions/orchids. The 6" wide cedar was way cheaper.
Of course, there are certain orchids that call for the gorgeous piece of burlwood, but I think I'm going to be buying these as my "basic mount" from now on. WHOA. I think Home Depot is going to have a shortage of cedar in the near future.
