mounting is my absolute favorite way of growing. Since most orchids for sale are epiphytes it suits them well. Essentially the roots will grow on the surface of the wood and may even penetrate the wood. It can be cheaper than potting I guess. You can use cork$$, Dried cholla cactus(pretty good), driftwood(free
!!), tree fern, cedar planks, grapevine, Concrete blocks, etc. I use fishing line to tie on the plants. you gotta make sure they do not move or the roots will not attach.
One thing you can do and might work great for you is mounting on the outside of an inverted clay pot. If you drill hole in it even better.

If you buy pots like in the picture you can just fill the pot w water and let the growing start. You could probably mount on broken pots too
I LOVE MOUNTING

Love those "jars" "jugs" or whatever they are in the picture. I'm gonna keep my eye out for something like that when I go out.

Oh yeah. That picture is not on an inverted pot but you get what I mean. you can mount the orchids on the outside of one of your $1 clay pots, invert it and set it in a tray of water. It will wick up moisture, keep the roots cool, raise humidity, and never rot.
