Actually, a/c is really bad for phals. They're warm growers, and blasts of cold air can cause them to stall in their growth. Hang a thermometer where you plan to hang the phals and see if the temp is below 78F. If it is, find another spot for them.
My husband has had to adjust to a much warmer house in the summer since I started growing orchids. The a/c doesn't come on until it gets to 85 inside the house
But we keep the fan going 24/7 with or without a/c.
