Our a/c vents are under the window sill where they will be hanging (they'll be hanging from the ceiling by the window) will that be enough? I am having to mount everyone because my cats keep knocking them off the window sill and damaging them...=\

Actually, a/c is really bad for phals. They're warm growers, and blasts of cold air can cause them to stall in their growth. Hang a thermometer where you plan to hang the phals and see if the temp is below 78F. If it is, find another spot for them.

My husband has had to adjust to a much warmer house in the summer since I started growing orchids. The a/c doesn't come on until it gets to 85 inside the house But we keep the fan going 24/7 with or without a/c.

Lol, we have an agrometer in the windows and they're usually between 75 and 88 ON the actual sill itself. We have thermal curtains right there and the phals will be hung higher where heat rises...I think they'll be okay, the curtains actually block a lot of the cold but still let the breeze through...which I believe is why my cats sleep there and knock the orchids over to begin with lol.

Just an update on watering phals on mounts. Twice now I've left my mounted phals over the weekend with no water and they've been fine. I watered on Friday, left for the weekend and then watered again on Monday. But I do live in a humid climate in South Florida.

As always great information.. I'm fixing to try my hand at a mounted Phalaenopsis mariae and was worried about the watering also. I'm like others and go out of town on weekends from time to time and cant always count on others to water our orchids, but looks like a two or three day period will not harm them.
