Yeah, looks like a phalaenthe Den (Den-phal). Not all become monsters - the three I have are all petite. I have one mounted (Den. bigibbum v compactum). It has VERY little moss on it (it was mounted when I got it). I water it daily most of the year - twice a day during EXTREMELY hot, dry weather. Might skip a day in very cool, damp weather - but with the small amount of moss, and many roots growing into the air, I do at least spritz roots most days.

My potted ones I usually keep lightly moist - I let them get just dry in winter, before watering again. Moderately bright light.

The canes should grow upright on this type. These can also rebloom on previously bloomed, older canes - at least for 2-3 years.

Yay! I'm kind of excited to know it's a Phal Den, they sound simpler... and since I have Phals already it doesn't feel as strange...

The cedar chunk I have is about 1 1/2 feet tall and 6 inches wide around the base. I drilled a little cup out on the top and planned to put a candle or something in it, but an orchid would be so much more fun!!! *big smiles* I could put candles around the base too if I mount the orchid on the top portion...

That's just one option though! I wouldn't mind trying out a basket or a cedar slab, I have some of those too... I'm not real committed to any specific type of orchid being on any which piece, there is plenty to go around! That cedar stump would just be idea for one that would be too big to safely/easily hang in a house.

I have three Phals mounted on cedar stripes right now and they hang easily out of the window facing down. If I mount to hang, they would likely be downward facing since that just seems natural. For ground mounted (the stump and such) I would go for the tricky ones upright on those, kinda hard to make those grow upside down! *chuckles*

Seems like the Den would be the best choice for the Cedar stump!

This is my baby Catt! It's a "Pot. Waianae Appeal 'Aloha'" and I am very much looking forward to it's blooming! Gonna be a while probably though... It's a baby!

Anyone know much about this one?

i have some of those as well....its a peachy color with a red lip....just keep it watered and let it dry out.....like any other catt....and do that for about 3 more years, lol....gl

I've got it mounted now and thus far it seems to be doing well. With my mounts, I mist them each morning and the roots around dinner time. The moss I have under the root ball dries out really quick but I leave it dry for a few days with just the misting to hopefully promote new root growth. The current roots are all green/white and plump, so I assume it's liking what I'm doing... *helpless shrug*

I only have one window to grow out of and with 12 orchids, they can't be too picky about sharing space and conditions, haha!

The den is blooming now though!!! I only lost one bud from the store/home transition, so I take that as a good sign too that the others held on and opened!

Can't wait for my baby catt though...

ahhh... time will fly by fast I'm sure...
