Thanks I am so happy with this baby, hopefully it will have more blooms next year. It definitely seems happy on the mount.
And congrats on your blooms Sonya! May I presume 's will follow?

Fabulous! I have just had ago at mounting a small back bulb of my Oncidium sweet sugar. I found some old wood in a park, baked it for half an hour and mounted my little piece of Oncid. I hope to have the same success as you have had with your beauty.

Thanks Susie11!
I hope in due time it puts on a Happy display for you! I have a Oncidium sphacelatum, which I keep thinking about mounting (would need quite a big mount for it though ) so really would love to hear how you get on with yours!

Thanks MandaneWiser,
Yes the roots and structure of the plants can become just as beautiful to an Orchid grower as the blooms. It is rather fascinating to observe over time as the roots envelope a mount - The best part being when you can remove the fastennings and just let the plant hold on by itself
And again, would love to know how you get on with your future mounting project and wish you all the best with it!

So it's been a while. Another thread about mounting Cattleyas reminded me of this one.
Long story short, my own bad health over the past few years has meant this plant suffered quite a bit. Things getting back to normal for me, so the plant also has been in recovery.
There are definite new pseudobulbs and plenty of strong new root growth after a disastrous couple of year s regarding the care of this (and other) orchids.
But as the photos show, especially the fourth, I had to do some cutting back of pseudobulbs that were starting to look very unhealthy - not just the wither away lack of moisture sickly (though that also happened) but definite signs of something amiss.
So this is the plant now, the window is going to get cleaned up and repainted this year so please excuse the state of it!
As you can see by how much I had to hack away the mount would look considerably different had the proper care been possible. Also I would probably already be looking for new mount/home.
We'll see how things go. Hopefully better, but will endeavour to keep this thread updated regardless of success or lack there of.

Bud!
So with 3 new growths and this new bud, I'd say things are looking alright for my Cattleya at this time.
The bud is from an old dried up sheath from last year. I had read that old dried up sheaths may go onto produce buds eventually (on this forum I believe), so I decided not to remove it. Hopefully it will all go well and I will get a bloom!
