Tree Fern Washing prior to Mounting Male
Default Tree Fern Washing prior to Mounting

Just wondering if anyone has a good recommendation on how to wash/rinse a tree fern plaque prior to mounting. I know it needs to be washed, but wasn't sure if just a simple overnight dunking would do, if I should use a epsom salt mix, or boil it, or .... whatever. Any help would be great!

I don't know if it needs any special treatment other than just rinsing it well. I would just use as much clean water as possible to rinse out the medium - if it produces stained water then it might be prudent to rinse it until the water run clear. Do it at least the day before you mount it to allow chlorine to evaporate.

I haven't used a tree fern plaque for mounting, but do use tree fern fiber for potting, and just rinse it well prior to use

I use an old tooth brush (also clean the plants) to clean my new tree fern plaque while rinse under the running water until the water is clear, not the brown color.
If reuse the old one, just soak it to a diluted bleach or Physan 20 solution over night then rinse throughly.
Hope it helps.

I rinse it till the color of the water runs clear; soak it overnight on seaweed mix or the fertilizer you intend to use for the plant, then mount the orchid.

Other than soaking them to get them moist and ready for mounting, I've never given tree fern mounts any special treatment, and have not encountered problems with them.

I have at least 30 phals mounted on this and I never washed or rinsed before use.

However I guess its no harm washing it to clear whatever that is in it thats not suppose to be there.
