I have a challenge mounting...

Two pieces of Mopani wood arrived this morning and the piece on the left stands by itself. The second piece can't stand at all. My challenge is that I am really the most mechanically challenged male on the face of the planet - at times. What do I need to make this large piece of mopani stand up - it's too heavy, really, to hang. I was thinking of using something like the hinge as can be found on a picture frame but the back of the wood is so uneven it would be hard to fit one on without it wobbling all over the place.

You might try one of those plate holders that holds plates up. I use them for some of my masks that I've collected through the years so I don't have to damage them to have them stand up straight. You can get them cheaply at home depot here, but I'm not sure where you can find them in your part of the world.

Plate holders was what came to my mind first. You can get them with some pretty good springs which means you could take them on and off when you need to water. I believe you can also get them with springs for wall mountings - you could try a local picture framer if you have one up there in the wilderness

LOL There's a shop a few miles away that stocks just about everything that's available world-wide. If I can't find them there they wont exist lol

You could also try sanding down the back. Rubbing it vigorously on your sidewalk or driveway would do the trick.

You could drill a large screw into the bottom of it, and screw the other end into a board/plank of wood, or a piece of stone/tile (like slate) so it holds it up kinda suspended (just use a stainless steel screw so it doesn't rust when u pour water all over it daily) Good Luck! And show pics whatever u do

~Just drill a hole thru the tile, push the screw through the hole (maybe with a washer, just in case) and screw it up into the piece of wood~

What about sawing it in half to make 2 mounts? I've done this quite often when pieces are too large for my liking. I can get 2 or 3, sometimes 4 mounts out of one large piece. Then you could probably hang them.
