Default Moss options for Mounting Orchids .....

I have (2) pieces of cork bark and want to get two plants to mount. I have Spaghnum moss, but don't really like the look of it on mounted orchids ----
Is there other moss options to use for mounting orchids?

I think a greener looking moss is more attractive ...
but don't find it or know where to get it .

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the legalities of it are over there, but you may be able to find some nice mosses you like the look of in a damp wild place near where you live.

I've heard of people using "Oasis" floral foam to mount orchids and keep them damp.

With time, you don't actually need the moss there for a lot of species - it's mainly there to keep them damp whilst they get used to the idea of being mounted, so you could always pull the sphagnum off (slowly!) over time, once the plant(s) have established.

I'm sure more experienced orchid mounters will weigh in shortly

I have several mounts on cork. The moss is used as a transition so the plant gets used to growing onto the mount. The moss just keeps it a little moist during that period. After it is growing you can gently remove any extra but usually the growth covers up any and you never see it. I do have some mounted that I have added spanish moss to give a interesting look and it has added some moisture but I don't use it behind the plant just wrap it lightly around it after mounting. Since it is live moss it keeps growing. Everything I have is outside all year so you would have to try it up there in Jersey.
