Has anyone ever found their orchid has reached the top of the mount but the lower part is all older backbulbs that are realy not doing anything anymore?

In this case how would the orchid respond to the mount being rotated so it could start growing the other direction?

Backbulbs can be removed and encouraged to sprout. What I normally do is put my mount on a larger mount and marry the two together.

1) Mount plants low on the plaque to start with.
2) When they grow up and off, attach the current mount low on a larger one.

well all good advice but the back bulbs are way to small to count in this case and in fact were cut loose a month or two ago....no eyes that look viable on them and the one eye that even looks like it might be is so small it will be years from bloom size if it does....

as for attaching low to begin with I did that but its a fairly small mount and lol not likely Ill find one even close to like it again so realy want the orchid to grow back up onto it if possible.

I turned it 90 degrees today and the new eye that just started into active growth will get to mature before I rotate it again ....when the next eye starts I am going to turn 90 degrees again and so on untill it is heading back the way it came from.lol u-turn Clyde

LOL ....seems like its a intermedia on a realy cool piece of wood....and this round it looks like it has two eye and may start making more leads finaly....

I posted a week or so back I thought it was making a sheath but it fooled me and was simply a third leaf.

Anyways its has almost reached the top of the wood and I am going to turn the wood and let the new leads grow...then whan the next leads start turn again ...
once it is heading back the other way no problem for a while...I was just wondering how much it would affect the plant to do this if it bothers it at all even?

probably won't bother it as long as the new leads are full size before turning if not they might twist , are the roots firmly attached ? If not might consider re mounting on a much larger mount as it will get big ..

Hmm I was counting on them growing in the new direction so they would have to twist to do that ....seems I am going to have to go with growing it onto a larger mount after all and when its there use the knotty piece for something else...

prob. the best idea if roots are attached to the current mount , how about sitting the knotty mount in an empty clay pot then let it attatch to it in time it will cover the pot .
