I have a little Phal that has what looks like rot at the root ball... When I first mounted this little guy a week ago I did notice this but at the time it was only a small spot and other than that it was very healthy. I was starting to get a bit concerned because it was very perky when I mounted it and now it's lot all its firmness in all the leaves and this spot looks to be a bit more than double in size from when I looked at it a week ago. I have also noticed that the roots are starting to shrivel up under the rotted area. It dose have some roots above where this rot is (if thats even what it is...) Today I gave it a good watering because it looked like it was not getting enough water from my daily misting and since this morning it seems to have perked up a bit. I also clipped off it's spike so that it could focus on recovery. This little guy was in moss when I got it but the media was dry (light brown)
Can you guys help me out???

Hi , Phals. usually lose the old roots at the base (stump) down the road if the stump becomes long it can be cut .. I would clip off the root in the photo there is another one that might go later. you can use some regular cinnamon to dry out the cut be sure to use a new razor blade and throw out after using . When mounted they need a good soaking till the roots are green, misting is not enough when mounted .. Happy growing

I Use A spray bottle and spray them down until the roots have water droplets and the mount is soaked. some days I spray more than others...
