My newly "mounted" Phal
Default My newly "mounted" Phal

Just some phal hybrid I picked up along the way. I found the hollowed out log in the woods. At the top (inside) it tapers in a bit, just enough to support the roots and even put some pine chips and perlite in. I haven't gotten the sphag yet, but I plan to. It obviously requires more watering, but I'm enjoying the way it looks, quite a bit.

Will post pictures when it blooms again (not for a while).

I love it - that's really creative. How do you water it?

The watering IS interesting. For the past few days, I spray it heavily (2 times a day) with a mister and like I said, the roots are surrounded by perlite/chips/moss, so it's not THAT different from being in a pot other than the wood itself is soft and retains water. Any excess drips off into the base below. I've also poured water directly over it as well.

Very interesting mount. I find myself looking at everything with an orchid in mind, it's become another obsession. Now I look at trash and say how could I use that for my orchids. Its amazing what you can come up with. Recycling is good I tell myself.

Nice. I can't even see what you used to tie it. Looks great. Any idea what kind of tree it was?
