how would water get into the crown? the crown is pointing down, so the only way to get wat into the crown is to splash it up, and if it does get in there, gravity will take it out. this is the way they grow in nature

Try not to water when the sun is directly on them, if that's what you are doing. I water when they are shaded but with plenty of time to dry out before dark.
I'm not sure that your problem, let's see what other say.
