That sounds good. I have gravel covering the ground under the shade house. It is like a 7' x 7' humidity tray. Plus I spray the entire shade house when I water. I soak the screens and wood too. It keeps the humidity up and the heat down a degree or two for at least an extra hour.

Oh, but be careful of the bromiliads. They are snail attracting plants. I have them, too.

That is very cool looking! I (the beginner) have never seen a ghost orchid. Y'all say that it has no leaves and only roots...is that why it is called a ghost orchid? I bet it looks really cool blooming!
[[...off to google and image of a blooming ghost orchid now...]]

Well. THAT is one cool looking orchid! The bloom looks like a ghost, too, so I guess that is where it got its name.
I can't figure out how to put a picture from a website on here
Photo Page 2 for the Ghost Orchid (Dendrophylax lindenii)
This board is going to cost me a lot of money, I can tell.

I used to have a bunch growing over a stock tank with water lilies and goldfish. I hung them on a cable about 3 inches above the water line. They did fine. I watered them with the fish water.

i've only tried a few plants. i've had some success with phalaenopsis from home depot but only wgen taking the original cutting from a new leaf or new root growth that's all i've done as far as orchids go. i've had success with cati and suclent and experiments with some random trees. some times the vials do get infected no matter how hard you try. it's one of those things that just happens. i'v heard u can use the kit to sprout orchid seeds

Ann, there are probably more pics in this forum and better ones. There are some great ghost hunters here.
Arenal, nothing surprises me in Costa Rica.
Jeem. I will be going to a TC workshop this Saturday so it should be a lot of fun. Something I've always wanted to do but don't really have the room/space or time for it. Too many other hobbies. Thanks for that link by the way.
Have a great day to all.

This is a gorgeous one, taken by one of our members and I remember when he first posted it here on the board. It was taken on one of his trips to see them in the wild and there were several members who photographed this 5 flower ghost.
