Default on coconut husks

so this is my south facing bedroom window.
I mounted 2 one dollar phals rescued from lowes on coconut husks.
tehy had poor roots and just 2 leaves.
in teh beginning i did not water tehm enough.
I misted a lot but i think I have to dip tehm in a jar of water for a few minutes.I see new roots eyes and new leaves forming. it was like they were in a concentration camp but now it is like they are gaining weight and shape.

so the Vanda tricolor I got thru orchidboard i put it on top of a husk as well. in a different way. so i dont risk breaking the roots by clumsily opening the window.

wonder when something like this could bloom.

And a Den loddigesii keiki i received on another coconut. seems ok [added spagnum to keep it more moist till it develops roots]

put another keiki of the same plant in a small vase/ water culture seems like it is putting out roots fast.
since i had 5 keikis I will keep one in water and see.
another in SH.

I'm not very experienced with mounting, but those look good to me. The husk looks like it makes a good mount.

Well mounted! Keep us posted on how things go - orchids will always tell us if they like the mount - the roots will either cling readily to it, or very clearly "walk away" from it.

Do you think I should let the Vanda roots lose or wrapped around the husk with some sphag?

those 2 rescued phals had only a tiny root but now they are sprouting new leaves.
It seems to me that if you let the phal hang down like in nature the leaves grow longer than if potted upright and staked

thanks
Vandas are fine. Phals depends. I think it is too dry for them to be mounted. I noticed of the Lowes $1 phals some do better than others with the same culture.

I like coco chips as a medium best.
Tried LECA but feel many plants grow slowly in it.

a few are ok tho
