Phal equestris mount size enough? Male
Default Phal equestris mount size enough?

I have a very fast question
I've just got a big phal equestris keiki from Robe and I was going to mount it on cork but I've just got 3 pieces around 10x10cm (4x4"). Are they big enough?

I finally decided to mount it up. I will eventually ad another piece of bark firm on the another but I'm still interested on your opinions

Why should I mount it upward?
Because of the cork shape it's now about 90% when mounted

She means mounting it so the roots are upwards, i.e the crown is facing down so the water drains out of it. Basically you mount it like a phal would grow out on a tree in the wild. I think your mount is very quickly going to become too small. I would wait and put it on something larger. equestris is not a large phal, but it's not a mini either. Even minis need quite large mounts. I have a phal parishii (very small, the leaves are 5cm long) on a 10x8cm mount. Despite the small size of the orchid, the roots have completely taken over the front and back of the mount, which has become nearly invisible. I take no credit for it, I bought it that way from an excellent ebay seller (lepantes)

Thanks, it's growing downward already
I kept a pahl parishii for a friend and they are very small indeed, I gonna look for something bigger otherwise I will find a way to make it bigger
By the way the mount is very thick, something like 4 cm.

I was also thinking to use some different inert material such clay to ease the search. Do they like this kind of porous materials as cork?
