nice set up. i am planning to put shade cloth outside like you, but first need to ask my husband first and see what he says. it is forecasted that malaysia is going to be hot until september its is now unbearably hot since last month, i am practically sweating if i go outside! i would water my chids everyday, since it rains too everyday!

hi to everyone, thanks for the nice comments , i am really happy i leave in a tropical country like the philippines, growing orchids is really easy here,the weather is perfect for them you can grow all the orchids you want, my only suggestion is try to invest a little property here where you can grow orchids all day long, my country is a nice place to leave in hahaha.

hi natasha thanks, yes the weather is changing, hot in the morning and raining in the afternoon , we really need to protect the chids from to much sun or they burn, if the sun still becomes hotter i might put 1 more shade to protect them.

hi tabs, what type of chids do you put outside other than vanda? i have the rest of my collection in the car porch, which gets morning & afternoon sun. i put all my catts, dens, phals etc there...

anyway, i had burned some of my vandas when i put them in the wrong location!

hi natasha, i put also dends and cattleya outside , but i remove the catts when its too hot , i dont like to get them burned , but the dends stays with the vandas all the time.

i used to put my dens outside too... but i was worried that my dens get overwatered since it was rainy season. and some more, the leaves are getting yellow from the sun. so i moved them to the porch. but i haven't put my catts outside yet. maybe if i have installed shades i would try again to put the dens and catts outside like you did

hi natasha for the dens i dont use coconut for medium coz it does not get dry during rainy season , i use charcoal so they get dry easily. i also started changing my mediums specially for those that are outside, remove all the coconut mediums , coz rainy season is already starting here.

i didn't use coconut for my dens. but i did put some sphag during the last hot season. it does help though... as here is sooo dry - industrial area. but it seems my dens like the sphag too, they flowers a lot!

I've set a 4 foot section of cedar fence post in a large terracotta pot with a little quick setting cement and a few nice rocks and plan to mount several things[chids,broms,] on it. You have inspired me,beautiful job and many,many thanks.I collected some local mosses from oak trees,put them in a blender with rain water and sprayed the resulting solution onto the post and when it gets a little more established,I will mount some chids on it and see what happens. Wish me luck,I think I'm going to need it.
