Hey All,
Went to Lowes today and the vinyl gutter guard they have is a little to thin to mount orchids. It would work well if doubled up, but I wish I could find the stuff from the picture. I have sent out a few emails to overseas vendors (where I see this material used often), but nobody feels like sharing. I think it is still some type of gutter guard, just need to find one that is a little more heavy duty. Let me know if anyone finds such. Thanks for the input, Neil |
It looks a little like bird netting that is put over fruit trees but that would be to thin too .. they use something like that when building pole barns to keep rodents out it is put around the foundation base .. Gin

Neil, my hubby thought it looks like something that is used for rabbit hutches or a poultry fence only that stuff isn't usually rubber coated. Maybe looking at a farm supply store might help?

Becca's husband might be on to something they do use coated wire for the floors in Rabbit cages to prevent sore hocks on them ..

Hey all,
Thanks for all the suggestions. I checked out vinyl poultry fencing, but the diameter of the holes is a little big. I think I have found out what it is. It is called windbreaker mesh or rockshield mesh. I found it in the UK but not in the US. If you google those two you can see what they look like. I have found some tree guard or hardware mesh that is on the web but Lowes or Home Depot doesn't sell the good stuff. When I find it, and I will, I will let everyone know. I did find some stuff that could be used as a substitute for Epi-Web. Gutter Stuff-Pro, or Gutter-Fill. It is a foam that is put into gutters to keep leaves out. Looks like Epi-Web when you get close. Here again it is difficult to find. Gutter installers usually have it. I believe it is all made out of PET plastic, the same stuff Epi-Web is made of. Bascically recycled plastic bottles. Thanks, Neil |

Hey,
I went by Lowes again today and found something that might work. It is their tree guard vinyl mesh. Its green and rigid enough to mount orchids on. Not exactly what I am looking for, but if I can't get the stuff from the picture it will work. Lowes does have vinyl Hardware Cloth. It looks good as well and would work if doubled up. I think I might start a thread on materials people use to mount orchids. Thanks, Neil |
This may be off in left field, but has anybody thought of or used the material that humidifier/air filters are made of. It generally has lots of small "pores", might be available with larger pores. Kind of reminds me of "Scotch bright pads".
Just a thought. Melanie |
