Mounting Phrag. besseae

I have a Sophronitis cernua mounted and I keep a little water at the bottom of a cup I keep underneath it - the moss is low enough where it will wick up water after I allow it to dry out .. I add a bit of water to the cup and it keeps me from having to soak it as often.
Perhaps you can devise some kind of wick to keep the moss moist.

Soph cernua thrives as a mounted plant and my specimens just need to be hosed as the weather indicates. It is quite a bit different that Phrag besseae in its requirements. Perhaps your suggestion would work for besseae. I don't want to experiment with my plants!

My Sophronitis cernua seemed to be in static animation while I had it mounted in bright light and humid conditions for close to two years. One month ago I potted it up using crushed tree fern fiber, and already I have two new roots and one new growth. THe pot is in a lower humidity higher temperature higher lighting condition.

My example was not to compare the requirements of two very different orchid genus so much as it is to suggest a way of keeping the feet moist by example of my 'pseudo semi-hydroponic' watering system.

i dont think this is a good idea for most people out there, i believe you really need to have very special conditions to have a plant like this thrive mounted . but that is just my 2 cents.

i grow my phrags WET, 24/7 with good ventilation and good light. but who knows , i would love to see this phrag in a year or two, to see how it goes.

Interesting, this is an old post but I've never thought of mounting Phrags. Reading through there was never an answer of whether it was still doing well a couple of years later when someone revived the thread then.

Like Palm521 says they like to be wet usually and I think they might dry too quickly for most people if mounted.
