Jesse: I have a ordinary glased pot plate (?) in terracotta glued upp side down with silicon (without fungicide). Some use a piece of glass and others use ceramic floor tiles.

Ramón: Mikael at Dusk.com sells small vivarium with this setup. They are traveling to some shows in Europe to sell and promote Epiweb. Mikael is also the man behind Epiweb and the one that found and saw the use of this tubes! Otherwise I heard that one of the big grocery store in Sweden for building material (k-Rauta) sells them. Have not seen them myself but will investigate those on Friday.

I can at least share a photo of what I made for you today. This is the 8" long tube from the 6" die, slurried to a base that I will trim back flush to the tube as an end cap. I'm going to keep this one to play around with

No, NO NO! You're were right about the measurements. . .at first I posted that I wanted a small one but then thought better of it and edited my post for a larger size. I am so sorry! I didn't know you'd seen the original post and got busy so quickly!

I would be happy happy happy to purchase both the small one you made and a large one!

Wonder if a cap on top of the tube will help or hurt the porosity?

I think a cap would work fine as long as it had a small vent or loose plug so that it didn't form a vacuum as the water worked its way out.

I actually have a capped SwampStick called a SkeeterStick. It was developed for a grower in Hawaii who is under strict USDA regulation not to keep any standing water. They have a nasty little mosquito on the island that can lay eggs which hatch immediately, and new mosquitoes emerge in I think it was something crazy like 3 or 5 days.

The SkeeterStick is capped and the fill hole plugged with a cork to keep the critters out. I'll pot a picture for you tonight!

Jesse, why not doing a lid in clay that could lay on top of the pipe? The joint to the tube will never be airtight if you do not ad a rubber seal and you would not have problems with vacuum.

OK gmdiaz, I just finished your 16" tube on the 10" baseplate. It will have to dry a bit before I can refine the surface. Do you want it smooth or do you want me to carve fine ridges in it to give the roots some grab? And did you want me to cap it?

Sorry...do you want caps and texture on both mounts? And do you want me to leave the base on the 8" mount the way it is, or trim it back flush with the tube? And if you want me to leave the base, do you want it glazed as well or treated with tile sealer?

I really do like the base on the 8" mount the way it is. And I like the base on Magnus' tube too. Both very nice.

I would like the base and the cap glazed but in some sort of really muted way. Not fond of the bright colored glazes but I do just love the look of Japanese teabowls for instance. lolol

I wouldn't mind the base and the cap sealed though either. . .if it wasn't super shiny. . .I prefer a matte finish.

Just some ideas, whatever you decide will be fine!
