I received some plants today that I was planning to mount into my terrarium. They are in spike and/or blooming. Should I wait till they are done to mount them? I would like to mount a Phal cornu cervi, Haraella odorata, Bulbophyllum putidum andNanodes schlechterianum. These are in my intro post here: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...han-never.html
Also, I received an Aeranthes grandiflora. Can I mount this and will it do well in a terrarium? Thanks!
I have an Aeranthes ramosa in my orchidarium....I think I have had it for almost a year. I am still trying to figure out the lighting it likes....mine is potted, not sure if I would want try it mounted as I have read it likes to be moist and I am afraid it would dry out to quickly for me, and I don't have the space to mount it either.
Well I have tried to make it a rule of thumb to check out the roots of all orchids when I receive them.... I don't know if mounted or potted is better, but yours looks pretty happy, and the one in the link looks pretty happy as well. If you have the time for daily watering or however often it would need being mounted then I would say go for it!
It's hard to find a time Haeralla is not in bloom! Go for it. Same with others. There will always be a period of languish (sulking) after mounting a orchid for the tank. This will go away and the plant will do just fine eventually.
