I just got one today that is in flower. I am planning on mounting it when it stops, but I hope the roots continue growing. Even though it i in flower, the plant is growing like crazy. It seems my conditions would work and all my other oncidiums do just fine.

I have 6 Tolumnia species that I'm growing outside year around here in Southern California. There are probably a couple that want relatively moist conditions but most really want to dry out between waterings. Personally I wouldn't use any moss or fiber when mounting these as it's safer to err on the side of better drainage. Also, I wouldn't recommend Tolumnias for the typical terrarium environment.

Mine receive full sun in the morning and I'm going to gradually move some divisions into more and more full sun to see how they do.

Hello I have several species of Tolumnia and this is how I grow them. Very high light 2000-3000 foot candles inside during the winter months. Full sun when outside. When you mount a Tolumnia. never put any sphagnum moss around the rhizome this will cause rot real fast. i try to put little patches here and there on the wandering roots. In doing this usually causes the plant to either flower or promote new growths. they like consistent humidity 65%- 80% is ideal. I use cpu fans for wind movement while they are indoors for the winter. They also like r.o water, distilled, I use a 1/2 R.O. and 1/2 Tap water for the minerals. They love a good under water soaking for a half hour completely submerged. No this will not kill them!
Just before the bedd room lights go out i give them a light misting. I also do a very light feed of 10-10-10 of any given fertilizer at 1/4 strength.
