Default A mount that is truly a "Pig's Ear"

Well, here's a laugh for the day. While browsing a flea market yesterday I happened on this "thing of beauty". At first glance I broke out laughing but then I realized than under the ahhhh, shall we say, decorations, there was a fantastic piece of root just calling out for orchids!
I'll keep you posted on how it works out. First thing, after removing the flora and fauna, is to figure out a water proof base for it. I'd love to hear some ideas.
Right now it is mounted on a piece of pine that has been stained maghony and poly'd.
HELP!
AL

LOL that's so tacky!!! butthe piece of wood is very nice!!

as per water resistance... check with Bonsaist, they use something to treat the dead wood in Bonsais, in order to make it harder and water resistant... Dunno whether compatible with chids, but could be..

They flew south early this a.m. but I'll call 'em back and send them to you if you want........
I though about listing them on e-bay as rare and exotic..........Tree Ducks!

Tree ducks (puddle ducks) aren't rare but endangered and exotic as they are found in tropical or semi-tropical countries. They are also known as whistling ducks
