Inexpensive Orchid Mounts
Default Inexpensive Orchid Mounts

I recently took the plunge on a flask of leafless orchids and I have them acclimating under a dome for the foreseeable future (next few months minimum) to gain some size, but when they do reach sufficient size - I will need to mount them. I have around 40-50 plants now, assuming not all will make it, but even that leaves me with a large number of plants to mount. I have a fair amount of cork bark lying around from different projects, but even with that, I'm still quite a bit short.

I'm currently looking for different options, and preferably cheaper options due to the number of plants and I couldn't find anything much cheaper than the plastic grids with holes - and I'm not a fan of those due to the look. That said, I did recall seeing a while back at one of the orchid shows I went to where they made mounts out of what looked like folded shade cloth; does anyone have here any experience on making those or know a good resource for it? It looked like it was folded over a few times and then somehow stitched flat.

Wink

Saving wine corks and gluing them together or with fine wire intertwined has helped me in a pinch. It's the time of the year for wine spritzers anyway.

I saw a video where someone used green synthetic 3M pot scrubbers as a mount. I do not have experience with it, wonder what others here think of this solution?

I would do reading on what other growers of these have used. I seem to recall some do better on specific kinds of wood.
