Hi Aaron, I can't add anything to the answers you have gotten but I can show you my mounts so you can get some Ideas on how you would like to do yours. The first one is mounted on a Royal Palm tree and the roots are well attached (I also have 3 other orchids mounted next to it). I was driving by some workers replacing Elect. Poles and they had bulldozed along the road and they let me take all the driftwood I wanted, and these are the ones I got. I do like cork bark but I think grape vine and natural driftwood looks the best.
Hey Dave,
Is that second orchid mounted on a palm tree? I was thinking of doing that myself. Does it get a pretty good grip? I have two palms outside my kitchen window that dappled sunlight all day long and I was thinking of mounting some cuttings of my Onc. sphacelatum on it.
I was also thinking of mounting a portion of the same Oncidium in the bowl of one of my huge live oaks. Does anyone think that would be a problem?
Thanks for all the great photos and info. everyone.

Yes there are 4 different orchid mounted on that tree 2 Onc. and 2 Catt. I would go ahead and mount it and be prepared to water regularly. the First Onc. took hold of the tree in less then a month but the Catt are taking longer so I have not removed the fishing string.
Great mounts David. Thanks for sharing. I dont have suggestions on mounting the sphacealatum perse, I do know it is a very thirsty orchid and loves almost full sun.
I started mounting last year. I was repotting and figured I may as well go ahead and mount instead. Probably the best time would be when new growth is happening. I have mounted just after flowering if it needed new mix anyway. So far so good. Some guys got it just because they didn't seem happy in their pots and I can keep tabs on them better being mounted. Catts, Phals & Dens too. Need some help just ask.
