I have grown ampullaceum:
A. In net pots filled with spaghnum/bark (4:1), finger tight.
B. On cork mounts, but with roots wrapped in about a 3/4" layer of spaghnum.
It will accept other combinations, as long as you water enough to keep it consistently moist (it should never dry out).
Typically this species only blooms once a year, usually in May/June.
Thread drift: Pink is the standard color. Some years ago they found the orange color form. This sib cross of pink x orange surprised me, by producing flowers that are near red.
