DC and davidg, you guys are making me hungry. Never got into Talking Heads, but olives and capers and anchovies and cornichons and... yum!!! And some nice well-aged (stinky) cheese.

Hahahaha yes!!! I had to venture out to get groceries today and all my foods were there lol. No shortage of pickled items or very aged cheeses
No chicken or beef but lots of lamb and fish ???? People are so weird
Or maybe I am. Either way, carry on

I notice that lots of plant people are also foodies - obviously a connection. I am a lifelong vegetarian (I eat some fish, but I can take it or leave it - just for the protein/low fat combination, and to be able to eat out easily) so cheese is my thing. I hate to brag, but I am at the world epicenter for cheese, and have a great cheese shop down the street with only the best - artisan, lait cru, properly aged, etc. All the best cheeses. Also just a short distance from Italy, where I go regularly (normally!), so excellent Gorgonzola and properly aged Parmesan (32-months, with the big protein crystals glistening in it). So I am in cheesy heaven!

No doubt, you are in the true center of the cheese world...I have to say, one of my most favorite cheeses was from Poland and not what you would expect. It was a white farmers cheese, aged and smoked....pow. it was insane..like a smokey soft cracker when you sliced it thick
My ancestry on my mom's side is Poland all the way to the mongols so we have a long tradition of amazing peasant foods (stuffed cabbage, meat soups, stuffed intestines) but the fun twist is my mom is a chef and a damn good one and so she modernizes and cross genres things and it is a really good time.
I have never heard of that all salt polish style but i am on the hunt now.
my recent favorite are horseradish pickles..flavor sensation

Usually called Polski Ogorki, at least in Canada, where I first found them. Usually flavored with dill, garlic and maybe ginger root.

On a more serious note, when I mounted the Coilostytlis it turned out that all the older root was rotted, and there was just a ring of new roots around the base. It had been grown in a pot with bark, so I guess it wasn't too happy. I think I should let the supplier know. I went ahead and removed all the soft dead root and mounted it on a fat log, so that I can rotate it as needed, with a pad of sphagnum over the few roots it had. Need to water it daily I think, and maybe start feeding weekly.

are you orienting it vertically? i am unclear by what a flat log is, forgive me

No, I had a round log - a cylinder about a foot long, but thick, with corky bark. I attached it in the middle. Right now I have so it is on one side, facing the light, with the log horizontal. I can rotate it so that the plant hangs vertically - I figured it should have a chance to attach a few roots first?
