Default Mounted orchids and winter rest

I have a Den. lindleyi that I'm going to mount on cork bark with sphag. My questions are...do you still give it a winter rest when it's mounted and is now (March) the time to mount it. I've had it in a pot with no bloom last year and watered very lightly all winter. Thank you in advance.

Second question first... spring would be a good time to mount - if new roots haven't started growing yet, they will shortly. As far as winter rest goes... If it dries out well, probably wouldn't hurt to give it an occasional spritz. I know that Andy's Orchids doesn't do anything special to the mounted deciduous orchids... plants are grouped by temperature requirements, and if the area gets watered they get watered (because they're mixed in with things that need water) BUT they also dry very fast. In fact, I would skip the sphagnum. If the plant is small, maybe a little over the top of the roots, but definitely not between the roots and the mount. In general that's how I mount... if there is moss between the plant and the mount, roots tend to grow into the moss and ignore the mount. That goes for everything. I use moss on plants that need extra moisture (such as Pleurothallids, or small Vandaceous plants) on top of the roots, just to help them get established. But Dens and Catts, that like to dry out, don't need it.

Did you want it in the 'growing on mounts' forum? I can move it for you.

I moved the thread for you.

Normally the winter rest treatment will be the same mounted as it is potted, but you may need to water it a bit more often if this is a species that should be watered during winter rest. I don't grow mounted plants so can't help more than that.
