Cool I was just trying to get an idea of how many plants would fit because I'm currently building one of similar dimensions although it will be taller. I'm hoping to end up with about 3.5m with about 0.5m of that below the surrounding ground level.

Step down. Planning Dept. only allows secondary structures up to 3m from ground level without a development application so this was partly to get around that however it will offer a few benefits... moisture retention, lower level shading, insulation, extra hanging space...

Funny thing is I've dug the pit already and it has been raining here fairly solid for the last week. I was expecting a swimming pool but the water has just naturally drained through. I assume because it is on a slope. I still plan to put in a drain though.
