Lights in the Garden Effect Blooming?
Default Lights in the Garden Effect Blooming?

I have a greenhouse which is about 15 feet from my front gate. The greenhouse has a layer of shadecloth rated at 66% with a layer of Aluminet over that rated at 33%. There is a gate light of 100 watts atop the gate. Any idea if this light will change or impede blooming. Thanks for our thoughts

I doubt it also. I live in an urban environment where there are streetlights and security lights on all night and I don't believe that I am experiencing any problems because of this.

the few plants I have grown, like orchid cactus, that are light sensitive supposedly, haven't been effected in my experience by street lights or even porch lights at night....they have bloomed for me wonderfully in exposed situations.....I think with all that cover on your greenhouse you will be fine. orchids are not that sensitive to night lights in my opinion....good luck!

Some species cattleyas seem to be the most sensitive to daylength disruptions, but a 100W bulb from 15 feet is not likely to have any impact.

I must ask - where are you, and what are you growing under almost 90% shade???

It would be enough to prevent Pointsettias from setting colored bracts, but it should have no impact on Orchids.
