Gooday AussieVanda; Nice that you want to share! I live in So. Florida, USA and the building codes are sooo strict that it is impossible to build a real greenhouse!... Does anyone know the ropes ? Thanks for sharing !

Judging by the size of the dump truck in the photos you Aussies build on a huge scale.
Seriously, power tools and construction are some of the most compelling things I know. Better than dating your friend's friends' friends who they think you must be desperate to go out with.

I've been designing a shade house based on your design. Naturally, I've converted your measurements to inches. Had a few questions if you can spare the time.
1) Could you provide a description and topside picture illustrating how you attached the 2 x 2 inch mesh as well as the shade cloth to the top of the shade house? Both layers appear very neat in the pictures.
2) Please confirm that the orientation is north/south with the wood fence on the east side. What percentage is your shade cloth?
3) Your posts are approx 10 feet of which 2 feet are buried as footers, correct?
4) What type of stain did you use? Here in the USA, you generally have to wait 6 months to let the 'pressure treated' lumber dry out some.
5) It appears that the center beam, running lengthwise is longer than the 2 side beams. If so, by how much? Is this for aesthetics?
6) How is it holding up since you built it? What would you do different if you built it again?

Hi, glad you found some inspiration from my design!
1) It's all pretty concealed so I've included photo's of the hardware used instead. The u-clips and tek screws obviously hold the mesh in place and screw directly into the timber. Loop in through the edge of the mesh first then screw into place. The green plates are simply hammered into place AFTER you have pulled the shade cloth into position and over the top of the mesh. Hammer one end in loosely and then gradually stretch into place fastening as you go.
2) Long side is North South, and the open side is east west (all -plants get full morning sun and some late afternoon sun) About 60% or 66% shade cloth from memory. Don't forget with open sides you get a large amount of indirect light. The higher shadecloth really only prevents midday burn.
3) 600 millimetres deep. Also not only are they cemented into place, I ensured the cement sits higher than surrounding ground to prevent water from pooling in the post holes so as to prevent rot.
4) It was a cabots stain, walnut? I used a spray gun.
5) Yes, aesthetics only. It's 6 metres in total length, I cut off the side beams by about 150mm - 200mm.
6) Great, no issues, the only thing i would change is the flooring, instead of gravel floor I would just cement it completely. Once weeds get established painful to remove all the time. I still may do this.
Good Luck!!
