HEY DOROTHY JUST GOT OFF WORK
THAT MIGHT BE THE NAME.
UNFORTUNATLY ABOUT HALF OF MY ORCHIDS DONT HAVE NAME TAGS CAUSE I BUY THEM AT GARAGE SALES AND SUCH. AS A GARDENER I WOULD RATHER ADD A PLANT THAN PASS IT UP CAUSE IT DIDNT HAVE A TAG.

P.S. DOROTHY I DONT KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT RIGHT EITHER. IT STARTED TO SEND UP A NEW BRANCH OR GROWTH. IT GOT ABOUT TWO AND A HALF INCHES THEN THE SUN POSITION CHANGED AND BURNED THE TIP BAD. I DONT KNOW IF ITS GONNA RECOVER OR NOT. IT ALSO HAS SNOW MOLD OR SOMETHING GROWING ON THE LEAVES WHICH I SPRAY WITH NATURAL BUG STUFF BUT I CANT TELL IF IM BEATING IT BACK OR NOT.

Right now the wind is blowing hard, its very rainy, and I cant even get out to clean all the debree. Im sure your right about it being schomburkia because i asked someone in our orchid club. I still have no idea what to do with it or how to take care of it best.
thanks joe

Here are some examples of schomburgkia ( myrmercophilia) flowers - HOME
I have a tibinicis, a thomasoniana and 2 hybrids .. one pictured at the site called Schombocattleya Cinnamon Tower and another Schombolaelia Monte Carlo - None have bloomed for me yet but a few are beginning to spike
This thread will give a some info on schombo/myrmecos - Question for Dorothy
(My avatar use to be of a schomburgkia thomasoniana flower)
Here is culture sheet on schombos you can put in your favorites for quick finding - (Kudos to Gin for this link that she posted in another thread) Phil's Orchid Page - The Cattleya Alliance Culture - additional information on SCHOMBURGKIA
Any other questions .. I'd be happy to answer

Schombo/myrmecos like to be left alone .. they will go through a 'shock' phase if they are repotted so know that you might not see any growth from them for a few months until they have set. I have mine in coconut husk medium. It's called KK mix from Kelly Corner's which consists of charcoal, perlite, airstones and coconut husk chips. What I like about the CHC is that it doesn't break down as fast as bark so you don't have to repot as often.
They can come from 2 different cultures .. either hot and dry or intermediate temps and wet. ( See the link - Question for Dorothy - in my last post) If it hasn't grown for you, you can alter it's watering schedule and see what the results bring. You can expose it to more light but I would do so gradually to allow it to adapt to the new intensity. If there are any negative effects from any changes you make, simply return it to the conditions you originally had it in.
I hope this helps
