Heating Mats for indoor use

I have no green house, but grow the majority of my orchids in converted aquariums and reptile tanks. I have several heat mats that I use every winter (Lee Valley was my source) and for the reptile tanks, the Exo Terra heat mats (expensive!). I have found them all to be a good investment. For me it means: a comfortable environment (I live in an apartment condo), and a warmer one for my orchids. I think of my encasements as micro climates, and basically do what you and Silken do on a micro- mini scale.

I carry the Hydrofarm windowsill- and tray-size mats for prices better than I see on Amazon...

Do you keep your Phals on the mats even in the summer? I have several mats with Phals on them and am wondering if I should leave them on the mats since I keep the A/C pretty cool during the summer. Average temp of 71 degrees. This is the first summer that I've used the mats.

Personally I don't use them in the summer. Our temps probably naturally stay around 71F or a bit lower and the phals do fine in that for me.

I use mine only in winter when the night temp in my growing space is in the high 50F to low 60sF.
