Anyone ever made a DIY ultrasonic fogging setup?

I've been doing some more research into humidity control in small scale greenhouses... Mine will be a bench unit about 1m x 2m so an ultrasonic fog system might be perfect for humidity control. Has anyone ever made one? Where did you get a commercial ultrasonic fog unit? Any advice is much appreciated...

aqua fog 700 is my choice, and mine has run well for going on 7 years now.....gl making one, i wouldnt have a clue how to do that, lol.....

You can make your own, but it's a bit of a pain.

The most important thing, once you've found a fogging unit (they're pretty commonly available) is to work out 1) what the optimal height of water above the transducer is and 2) how to keep the water at that level.

1) is simple experimentation

2) the 2 easiest ways are to either create a "float" that suspends it at that height, or else create a system that fills the unit back up again any time the water level falls (your options are either a syphon system - think of a full coke bottle suspended upside down above a sink full of water; so long as the opening is below the water, fine; as soon as it goes above whoosh - refill! or secondly, a float valve).

You will also need to rig up a way of forcing air through the fog chamber into the mini greenhouse - a "muffin fan" on one side and a large diameter (tumble dryer hose perhaps) hose on the other side leading into the GH would work well.

If you can't be bothered to make your own, you can use a herpetological unit (they come complete with hoses) or an indoor human type one if you can't find/buy horticultural ones (not that a 1x2m one would need a horticultural size one).

Plenty of places tend to sell them to add a fog effect to ponds and the like.

Not living in Oz, I'm not sure where to go hunting!

I once saw a design were a guy used 3" floating foggers in gutters that hung along the top of the wall. The gutter had an over flow drain pipe put in and a reservoir tank (plastic tote) underneath the shelf. There was an aquarium pump put in the reservoir to constantly feed water to the gutter system, and the overflow drained back to the reservoir. He then put all the floating foggers on a timer and they would for a blanket of fog for 15 mins at time each hour or so.

I just use a room ultrasonic humidifier on the far side of my Pleurothallid light shelf, and gently blow the aair across the plants with a small fan behind the humidifier.Works great,simple to maintain, and the plants love it!And its cheap!
