LED UFO light

At last my LED light arrived! £150 was the cheapest price I could find and there was no postage. Time will tell if it will do the job it claims but it was a simple operation to hang it up and plug it in. So, the experiment starts here. There is a blaze of light in the kitchen now, far more than you see in these pics.

Interesting. I replaced most of the light bulbs in my house with LED and my electric bill went down by $20 a month. Let us know how your light works.

I have read that the drawback to these lights is that the plants and flowers appear to be the wrong colour.
I got a Sunblaster T5 for my birthday. My orchid room looks like it is in sunshine and the orchids are loving it. I was going to get an LED one, but changed my mind. I hope that it works well for you.

Thank you! Yes, the colour is a bit off but I'm not concerned about that so much because the light is to keep them growing etc. The light's been on about an hour and there is no heat from it at all but the colour does suck lol. As long as it works out to their benefit I hope it does work or it's an expensive experiment lol.

The expensive ones are the ones that are supposed to be good. There are a lot of cheap ones out ther. The sun blaster T5 are a new type that give maximum light fo little energy. Anything that gets them through our dull winters is good.

I'll certainly keep you up to date with how I get on with this light. I have a few phals and a couple of catts that are about to bloom so we'll see what happens in a couple of weeks or so. That sun blaster looks good but for whatever reason I don't like them that close to the plants. I think I'm thinking this way because once I get my greenhouse up and running I don't want to be moving lights to water the plants. Anyhoo, it's a very minor consideration.

I have my sun blaster close to my hi light plants such as vandas. It doesn't give off much heat. The low light plants are 22 to 26 inches away and are still showing good growth. Mind you, this is in a south window but at this time of year it's pretty dull. I only have the one light but it is designed so that you can plug a second one in to the first one.
I'll be interested in how you do with with your U.F.O.

the idea behind LED lights for plants...so people could grow weed in the closet at home and not get caught with high electric bills or heat seeking helicopters overhead using FLIR. The LEDS IMO will soon pass the way of the Dodge Vanagon with a waterbed in it and a velvet Elvis. And I notice these are called supplemental lighting which leads me to believe that the LED alone wont do the job. But we know all this right?

Just go get ya a "Light Bright" from Toys R Us if all you wanted was a toy.

I totally disagree. The LED UFO lights are totally sufficient (good ones are) and you need no supplemental light to bloom and grow orchids. What you need to bloom and grow pot, I don't care about...

LEDs are here to stay... You will be using them in your house within a couple years. White ones.

From what I have read, as long as you get the good quality ones they work. The cheap ones might be another matter. The t5 are less expensive by far. After the LED have been on the market a while, they'll get cheaper.
