When to remove shadecloth for the winter? Male
Default When to remove shadecloth for the winter?

OK, so this summer I had to cut down a 100-foot tall tree (had been struck by lightning and died) that used to be my "shade cloth", so replaced it with some 35% Aluminet (great stuff, by the way).

As this is my first time using shade cloth in 40 years of growing, when would be a good time to remove it - remember I'm near Philadelphia, 40°N latitude.

Ray,

I would go naked around the time when your tree usually had lost all its leaves

I'm in western NY. My rule has been to take it off on the 21st of Oct and put it back on the 21st of Feb. It seems to work well for me.

Thanks all.

Eyebabe, as the leaves are coming off of the other trees now, I'll expect to see you naked at the SOS show!

Me? Dirty old man?

Of course! - Everyone needs a hobby.

It was a tulip poplar, one of the dirtiest trees around. It WAS the tallest tree in our neighborhood, but I have some maple, ash, and oaks that are getting close.

You better remove in the middle of the winter but let that be a temporary one.
