bad new..evacuated growing area :(

okay guys, i have some bad news. my growing room has to be evacuated. someone is moving into it. there are no other rooms in the house that will suffice. so its either lights and racks, or a GREENHOUSE. i doubt a green house would happen. unless i can find a cheap one on craigslist or something. how big of a greenhosue would i need? i dont think im going to need a really big one. i have almost 20 orchids, but that is only because i dont have room for more orchids. if it is a small GH i get, it would need to be ok for my chids to be in winter. i have catts dens phals and a neo ( soon to be neoS )

just remembered something, if i have a lights and racks, im concerned about the humidity

There are indoor green houses on the internet, only about 60 dollars, it's like a rack, with 4 shelves, lights, and a plastic cover for humidity. All you would need is a fan for air flow.

The last one seems like a good deal, $35 plus $11 shipping, which would give you a little money to buy a light and a fan. It's pretty big too. Its about 2 feet wide, 1 1/2 feet deep, and 5 1/4 feet tall!

thanks the only thing is, i have 20 chids atm, but my collection is growing VERY fast! ive thought about the last two, but i was told they cant go outside, because the temperature is too inconsistent, because its so small. and i cant have them inside, because they dont have lights.

I completely understand, but you can get a light for them, which wouldn't cost all too much. I keep my phals inside on shelves, nothing else needed, so you may be able to cut the amount of plants down that must be in the greenhouse.

It's just a thought. But I hope it all works out for you!

When we first get into orchids, we tend to obtain any plant which attracts us, like indiscriminate bees! Gradually, we focus on those plants which grow best for us in the area designated for them. However, just like in nature when the environment changes, we often have to adapt. Your adaptation may be in moving into the cool growing genera which can be grown outside all year long in your area.

Although you are in Zone 6a, I am not immediately familiar with the zone highs, lows and humidities.

the humidity doesnt get to low outside for winter, its inside where i have humidity problems

do you think that any orchids other than terrestrial orchids can withstand my temps? it gets into the teens. and last year we had 3 ft of snow. but we ussually get at least 8 inches at least once every wineter

It sounds like you live near or in Kansas... I do too. Sometimes the best course of action is to find a plant that you like, then research it. I know Aerides multiflora is a good choice. It's hot to cold temp... but I keep mine inside, so idk how it'll do in a greenhouse outside.

i live in Pennsylvania. im trying to think of what i really like, i really like laelias. but i havent experimented with enough different kinds of orchids to know what type i like the best. i googled your suggestion, it is beautiful how do you take care of it? i might have room for just one or two in the house
