My Greenhouse
Default My Greenhouse

Hello all,

Fairly new to this site. Bought this greenhouse last spring. Prefab, single wall fiberglass, corrugated, aluminum frame. The stone on the floor is 12 inches of #53 stone which packed down real nice and drains like a seive(filter fabric underneath the stone). Gas heat with electric backup. Vents installed this summer. Had to do additional caulking as I found out last spring that the fiberglass sheets weren't one piece. Added 30% shade cloth this summer. About 25% of the plants came from my collection I had when I moved here. I still want to widen the benches since I ran out of room already.

That looks incredible! I love your setup with the vanilla growing on the wood throughout - looks very naturalistic - nice job!!

Wow, what a great green house! I just love it and am envious as all get out! That vanilla is simply fantastic. I just got a piece and am hoping for the best but I'm afraid it doesn't look good at this time.
Thanks for posting your pictures, I really enjoyed my visit to your "orchid paradise".

The "branches" running perpendicular to the roof beam are cork tubes with chain running up the middle. In the future I plan to attach Catt's and Vandas to them. I already have a very successful Catt transplant on one. The thing was dying and I had a tube that was too short to hag on the ceiling so I figured why not. Not only did the the Catt recover it's sending out roots like crazy. It loves the cork tube. I put a little sphagnum moss behind it to get it started because it had no roots and looked 1/2 dead. I hung the tybe vertically with a wire hanger down the middle.

Addendum to above: see pic 6 of 13 and you'll see it hanging about 1/3 from right.
