I've done it I bought a Greenhouse

Well folks I jumped in and got my feet wet I ordered a greenhouse. This would be my second GH the first being a Sunglo like Bikerdoc's that was way back in the 70's. Then I raised cactus. I have a potting shed of sorts which I could have used but its not in good condition inside and since I have to do all the work it was easier to buy a free standing. Its a Solar Gem Greenhouse made fiberglass with a gel coating made in Tacoma, WA and is a one piece unit measuring 8x7.5x8 with one auto vent on top, bottom vent and 2 doors one at each end. I had the extra door added instead of the window due to where it will be located. The doors are regular storm doors in vinyl door frames. It comes with one double bench with hanging rail and one single bench with hanging rail and potting bin.

Walking thru my garden I will be able to walk thru the greenhouse as it will be located in a walkway of sorts. It will be delivered around the 12th of Dec. so until then I have to dig the trench 10" wide and 3" deep .

will show the area it will be placed. As you can see I am getting the site ready moving sprinkler system and old raised garden bed. As I progress with this adventure I will post more photos.

Congratulations! Don't worry, the pain from your empty wallet will be soothed by your happy orchids I'm sure. Personally I wouldn't know, never having had my own greenhouse. Someday. I'll enjoy seeing pictures as things develop!

Thanks Greenbean for the positive comments. Where in southern WA do you live? I used to live in Rochester just south of Olympia, WA.

I will be glad when it gets here cause I am not getting much sleep. I never got any sleep last night thinking about all I have to do and how I want it to look. Three A.M. in the morning I found myself with a measuring tape and a flashlight trying to figure out how many paver I was going to need. That is really sick...... I've got it bad. More post coming

Hehehe. I have trouble sleeping anyways. I can't imagine what I would do with a greenhouse on the way! Bad enough thinking about all the work I have to do at home outside (parents let the garden go, a lot!)

I live between Toutle and Castle Rock, about an hour and a half south of Olympia. But right now I'm at WSU Pullman as a freshman horticulture major, counting the days until Christmas break when I can go home to see (and maybe save ) my plants. Oh, and I guess I'll be happy to see the folks again too!

Ranchnanny, how will you be connecting to the foundation? Any reason why you went with this one instead of another sunglo? I am interested as I have a Sunglo and am thinking of adding on or getting a second gh. Lots of wind here so present one is on a concrete foundation with 3 inch concrete bolts. Betty

A new greenhouse, how exciting!! The only thing I can think of which is more exciting is filling up the greenhouse! I'm sure you won't regret buying it. Why do you need a 3" deep trench? That seems really deep!

Camille, not to speak for Sheridan, but the 10" x 3" trench is for a poured foundation or at least some kind of foundation upon which the GH will rest and keep out most of the animals! Some places require a deeper foundation, sometimes called a "rat wall" that must go down about 36" so it doesn't move from frost.

Sheridan, don't know what kind of floor you'll use but you may want to place 2 sheets of 2" or 3" styrafoam in the floor before it gets covered

Hey There Bikerdoc and Camille, Solar Gem requests the 10inch wide and 3inch deep trench is to set the GH in then they will drill holes in the 10inch lip and pound in 2 ft spikes. The shape of the GH is somewhat Gothic so that helps prevent problems with the wind. On not ordering another Sun Glo which was my first choice was the overall cost.

Question for Bikerdoc the 2" or 3" styrafoam is that a vapor barrier ? Would that stop water from draining into the ground? I had planned on placing about 4-5 inches of big chunk bark under the benches to help insulate the floor. I also planned on placing some hardward cloth just as an extra measure for moles and voles. I found a vole in the potting shed once don't know how he got in there.

Lol, looks like I misunderstood! After living in Europe for so long, I was getting my feet and inches symbols mixed up. Imagine a 10 by 3 FOOT trench!! I'm so dumb sometimes!
