Yikes, while I was puttering in the greenhouse today, you guys have been posting like crazy. Looks like a lot of good ideas to follow up on. Thanks a bunch gang, nothing beats a little experience to know what works.

Today I was busy installing the insulation. Got foam and bubbles now. Ross, I was just one step ahead of you with the foam. I added 2 inch foam below the benches. Then I did the bubble thing on all the rest of the glass.

Lots of info to digest tonight.

Things are looking good now. Some pictures.

I painted the bright blue foam to be a little easier on the eyes.

And the view from the inside, millilons of bubbles.

And more bubbles.

i have heard little bits about them lately and gin told me of hers the other nite in chat, so i bought one. it should have grommets on the corners to tie it down. i got 16mil weight plastic, its double plastic with air pockets between. clear of course and transmits 88 percent of the light thru the cover. i will just cover the roof of the greenhouse, and see how that works. i have twinwall polycarbonate walls so they should be ok, or i may cover them also with plastic. anything to save on propane and keep the orchids warm. i will let you know how it works out.

Hello from Washington state. RonCo, I used to live in Pickerington! Now am in the east side of Wa. in the high desert. Gets cold and some snow, but not like Ohio. Anyway, I put up a solar 14mil Magni Clear pool blanket. Covered the roof and walls and tied it down with rope and bungy cords. Works great but increased the humidity because of the decrease of air leaks. I'm running about 58 during the night as I have Intemediate chids for the most part. The idea of adding styrofoam on the lower walls seems like a good one as well. All my babies seem happy at the moment, but then again, winter hasn't arrived as yet. I wish everyone luck. Betty

My night time temps are 50-55°F in the small home-attached gh and I do best with intermediate growing orchids. The problem is how to cool them down in the warm humid summer nights. I do use fans all the time; one at the top of the gh and another under the bench.
