My greenhouse is so humid

If your plants are happy with the humidity and not having mold issues, just make certain you have good air-flow and that your plants are getting enough Calcium. Many of the orchids and tropical plants we grow in our homes would prefer high humidity but are able to tolerate lower humidity.

The potential for “aluminum contamination” has been discussed for years. Quite a while ago I saw a chemical analysis that showed it to be lower than that of food cooked in an aluminum pot or pan.

Back to the original subject, as far as I’m concerned, there is absolutely no need to extract humidity from the greenhouse environment.

I have heard of excessive humidity being a negative where it can slow transpiration (I have never heard of this being evaluated in orchids) or lead to diseases, but I never had an observable issue in my greenhouse in PA, which rarely had a RH under 90.

What the high humidity did do was slow the drying of potting media, eliminate evaporative cooling in S/H pots, and kept the plant far more uniformly warm in the winter, all of which led to better growth.

I'm using little Govee sensors to monitor the the temp and humidity. The humidity varies of course based on the temperature and it ranges between 25% to 97% with the average somewhere around 85%.

Overall the orchids seem to love it and I'm seeing a lot of new roots -- especially on the bark-mounted ones.

Do these numbers seem right to y'all? Specifically I feel it is maybe a little too humid and that there might be fungus or other leaf troubles down the road. I do have circulation fans going round the clock and can see nice gentle sways from most of the leaves.

As long as you have constant air-flow, everything should be fine.

I strictly provide 95.1% humidity. Others go lower, and it works for them. But seeing how I grow a few species that need a high humidity to thrive, I provide it.

But having an automatic venting system is what makes it all come together. Bring in fresh air and take out humidity to prevent it going too high
